Why Drive?
In the Rockies, the journey IS the destination. Public transit can't stop when a grizzly bear crosses the road or when the sun hits a glacier just right. Driving gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace, access hidden trailheads, and chase the light.

Car Type
- Summer (Jun-Sep): A sedan is fine, but an SUV offers better visibility for wildlife spotting.
- Winter (Nov-Apr): Mandatory Winter Tires (snowflake symbol). AWD SUV highly recommended.
Insurance
Windshield damage from loose gravel is extremely common here. We strongly recommend Full Coverage to avoid a nasty bill.
Gas Warning
Saskatchewan River Crossing is the ONLY gas station between Lake Louise and Jasper (and it's closed in winter). Fill up before you leave town!
Safety Rules
🐻 Wildlife Jams
If cars are stopped, there's likely a bear. Slow down, stay in your car, and do not feed the animals. Keep 100m distance from bears.
❄️ Black Ice
Roads may look wet but are actually covered in thin, invisible ice. This is common on bridges and in shaded areas. Slow down.
