The World's Best Classroom

The Canadian Rockies are a natural playground. Kids can see real glaciers, spot elk right in town, and learn about dinosaurs in the Badlands. But traveling with little ones requires planning. Here’s how to keep them happy (and you sane).

Kid-Approved Activities

Banff Gondola

An easy ride to the top of a mountain. Interpretive center and boardwalks at the summit.

Royal Tyrrell Museum

World's best dinosaur museum. 1.5h drive from Calgary (Drumheller).

Johnston Canyon

A fun "catwalk" hike attached to cliff walls. Exciting but safe with rails.

Survival Tips

Logistics

Car Seats & Strollers

Rentals are available in Calgary if you don't want to bring your own. Most main paths (Lake Louise lakeshore, Banff Fenland Trail) are stroller-friendly.

Safety

Wildlife Awareness

Teach kids never to approach deer or elk. They look cute like Bambi but can be aggressive. Keep children within arm's reach on trails.

Fun

Breaks are Key

Don't overpack the schedule. Plan for playground stops (Banff Central Park has a great one) and ice cream at Cows.

Family-Friendly Stays

Epic Pool

Douglas Fir Resort

Banff's only hotel with two waterslides and an indoor play park.

Is altitude an issue?

Banff is at 1,400m (4,600ft). Mild altitude sickness is rare but possible. Drink lots of water and take it easy on Day 1.
